 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. WE WILL NOT RELENT IN FIGHTING CRIMES CP MM AUWAL


 Tasks police operatives on Intelligence gathering
Seeks community engagement

 _Criminal Conspiracy, Thug and Thuggery and Causing Grievous Hurt and Attempt to Commit an Offence to-wit Culpable Homicide. 

On Saturday 22nd  of  July 2023 at about 1830hrs, Police operatives attached to ‘C’ Divisional  Headquarters while on a visibility policing patrol identified and raided a blackspot located at Sabon Layi, a suburb of Bauchi metropolis which led to the arrest of one Muhammad Abdullahi alias Luwawu ‘m’ of the same address. He has been on the Police watch list since 2021 for alleged Criminal Conspiracy, thug and thuggery, causing grievous hurt and Attempt to Commit an Offence to wit Culpable Homicide. Sometimes in 2021, the suspect criminally conspired with Sani Danfada ‘m’, Manu Maidawa and two others now at large, all of the same address, while armed with machetes and other deadly weapons attacked and stabbed one Mubarak Abdullahi ‘m’ aged 25yrs of Unguwan Sarakuna area on his head and cut-off his left hand from the articulatio-radiocarpea. 
Investigation uncovered that the suspects committed the alleged offence. Muhammad Abdulahi confessed to committing the offence during interrogation. Efforts are being intensified to track down the remaining suspects, after which they will be charged to court for prosecution accordingly. 

In another development, Detectives attached to ‘C’ Divisional Police Headquarters arrested four (4) suspected thugs of the embattled Sara-Suka group.

On Sunday 23/07/2023 at about 1930hrs while raiding a Criminal hideout situated at Nasarawan Madina Quarters Bauchi, the detectives observed an unusual noise in a cave-like part of the area  and immediately cordoned off the area and arrested six (6) suspected thugs  namely: 
Babawuro Mohammad ‘m’ aged 20yrs
Nasiru Usman ‘m’ aged 19yrs
Sadiq Musa ‘m’ 21yrs 
Hamza Ahmadu ‘m’ 19yrs 
Sadiq Tahir Ahmed ‘m’ aged 18yrs 
Umar Shayibu ‘m’ aged 21yrs 
all of Madina Quarters and Dutsen Warinje areas of the Bauchi metropolis respectively. Preliminary Investigation divulged that the suspects are into armed robbery and the act of Thuggery. 
Exhibits recovered from them include:
One Long Knife
Some dry leaves suspected to be Cannabis Sativa.

During interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime. Efforts have been intensified to apprehend their remaining fleeing accomplices, after which the suspects will be charged to court to face the wrath of the law at the completion of  Investigation. 

 _Criminal Conspiracy and Abduction_ 

On 25/7/23 at about 0700hrs, one Adamu Baka ‘m’ of Galawa area Akuyam district of Misau local government area aged 55yrs reported at Akuyam outstation that at about 0430hrs, unknown persons intruded into his daughter's apartment who recently gave birth and carted away with the newly born baby.

On receipt of the report, a team of detectives were immediately mobilised and earnestly swung into action and eventually arrested the hoodlums. The abducted baby was recovered from one Hajara Usman ‘f’ aged 19yrs of Ishehi Hamlet who conspired with one Ibrahim Usman ‘m’ aged 18yrs of Dugurgama Hamlet to abduct the baby.

Investigation is still ongoing to unravel the hidden motives behind the nascent act. The suspects would be profiled and charged to Court for the established Offences at the end of the investigation.

 __ Recovery of Prohibited firearm and ammunition(s)_ .

On 23/07/2023 at about 2130hrs Command detectives drafted to Tulu Divisional Police Headquarters acted on credible intelligence from the village head of Sabon Garin Tulu that a suspected unknown person was sighted beside Sabon Garin Tulu the team of detectives moved to the scene but the suspected person took to his heels on sighting the Policemen to an unknown destination and abandoned his sack containing one AK-47 riffle alongside one magazine with six (6) rounds of live ammunitions was recovered. However, Investigation has been ignited and collaborative efforts are being intensified to arrest the fleeing suspect.

In conclusion, the Commissioner of Police has tasked all police operatives to consolidate maximally on intelligence gathering which is the crux and fulcrum of modern policing. The CP equally emphasises the important role of community engagement and traditional Intelligence gathering with a charge to all officers to employ such pieces of machinery in their daily police duties.
