 FEDERAL GOVERNMENT ASSURES PAYMENT OF  OUTSTANDING WAGE AWARD / PROMOTION ARREARS The Federal Government has assured public servants that the outstanding wage award will be paid before the middle of August, while promotion arrears are being processed as part of ongoing efforts to fulfil its commitments to workers. Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Taiwo Oyedele gave the assurance during a meeting with the leadership of the Joint Public Service Negotiating Council.  He said the necessary release for the wage award is being concluded and eligible workers should start receiving payment before the middle of the month. Oyedele further confirms that promotion arrears, including Batch 7 which was earlier omitted, are being processed alongside Batch 9. Gov. Otu imposes curfew in 2 Cross River LGAs

Gov. Bassey Otu has declared a dusk to dawn curfew in Akpabuyo and Bakassi Local Government Areas of Cross River, following crisis in the two LGAs.

A statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Anthony Owan-Enoh said the curfew takes immediate effect and will run from 7pm to 6am.

It would be recalled that both LGAs in the Southern Senatorial District of the state have been recording crisis for weeks in which lives and properties were lost.

According to the governor, movement of people and vehicles have been banned during the curfew hours.

He said that the measure became necessary to ensure the safety of lives and properties, as well as forestall further breakdown of law and order.

“The public is therefore advised in their own interest to adhere strictly to these directives,” he added.
