 Morocco places provinces on highest alert as wildfire spreads Morocco has placed nine provinces at the highest wildfire alert level as blazes continued to intensify over the past week, with satellite data showing that more than 4,100 hectares (10,131 acres) have burned since the start of the year. Data from the European Commission-backed Global Wildfire Information System (GWIS) showed that about 855 hectares (2,112 acres) burned over the past week, marking an increase from the previous week, Anadolu Agency reported. The system also detected 1,006 thermal anomalies across Morocco between Jan. 1 and Aug. 2, including 59 over the past week. Thermal anomalies are satellite-detected hotspots and do not necessarily represent separate wildfires, as the same fire may be detected more than once. TV Presenter gang-raped, abandoned in classroom

 A gang of six men are reported to have raped an 18-year-old private Television Station presenter in Lapai town of Niger state.

The incident took place on Saturday.

It was learnt that the presenter was on her way home from office when she received a phone call from someone she apparently was familiar with.

According to a reliable source, the caller asked her to come to the Kobo Primary School, near the Emir’s Palace in the town, a call she responded to.

It was learnt that on entering one of the classrooms where the caller was waiting, she became dizzy after which she was given “something to drink” which made her to sleep off.

Before then, according to the findings, her phone was collected, the SIM card was removed and all information in the phone were deleted.

She was thereafter ganged raped and left on the floor in the classroom.

The Founder of the Lapai TV station Mr Aliyu Abdullahi Kure confirmed the incident, saying it was the mother of the presenter that informed him of the incident.

Aliyu Abdullahi Kure said the presenter was taken to the hospital where medical experts confirmed she was ganged raped.

He said despite being drugged the victim was able to identify one of the victims leading to his arrest.

Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, when also contacted, confirmed the story, adding that two suspects have been arrested in connection with the crime and that investigation into the incident was ongoing.
