 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. Police arrest 26 suspects over gruesome murder of woman accused of witchcraft in Cross River

The Cross River State Police Command has arrested 26 suspects for the gruesome murder of Mrs. Martina Itagbor, who was accused of witchcraft.

You will recall Magic FM reported that the mother of four was accused of being responsible for the deaths of some youths in a car crash. 

She was subsequently beaten and burned alive by youths in Netim community in Akamkpa Local Government Area of the state. 

Spokesperson of the command, SP Irene Ugbo, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Tuesday, July 4, in Calabar. 

Ugbo, who disclosed that the suspects were arrested at various locations in the state, said the command had begun investigations into the matter to determine the culpability of the suspects.

The PPRO reiterated that no stone would be left unturned to ensure that the perpetrators of the dastardly act were brought to book.

“We stand unwavering in our resolve and unyielding to any obstacle that may hinder the police from unravelling the depth of this matter,” she stated. 

She said Commissioner of Police Gyogon Grimah had directed the prosecution of those involved in the woman’s killing.
