 FIRST IMPORTED EBOLA CASE: NIGERIA EVACUATES INDEX CASE TO SWITZERLAND AS CONTAINMENT MEASURES CONTINUE The Nigeria’s confirmed Ebola index case has been medically evacuated from Abuja to Switzerland, following approval by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate. The forty-two-year-old patient, whose case marked Nigeria’s first imported Ebola virus disease case, was transferred alongside her spouse, who has remained asymptomatic. In a statement posted on his X handle, Professor Pate said the patient was clinically much improved, stable, conscious and able to communicate, with laboratory test results approaching baseline levels. However, the Minister cautioned that the patient’s clinical improvement does not necessarily mean she is no longer infectious, stressing that strict public health protocols remain in place. Abandoned newborn baby found under a tree in Bauchi

A newborn baby girl was found abandoned under a tree near a hospital in Shira Local Government Area of Bauchi State. 
 
According to an elementary teacher, Auwal Maisalati Shira, the baby was left on leaves under the tree close to Ambara Hospital around 12 noon on Wednesday, August 16, 2023. 
 
The baby was fully clothed and placed on a fabric. 
 
Mr. Auwal said he and the social welfare officer of Shira LGA took the baby to the maternity ward of the hospital.
