 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. COMMUNIQUE OF SOUTHEAST GOVERNORS FORUM MEETING BY THE CHAIRMAN OF THE FORUM, GOVERNOR HOPE UZODIMMA


On August 10th, 2023, the Southeast Governors held a meeting at the Enugu State Government House. 

Speaking on behalf of the forum, the Chairman, of Southeast Forum and Imo State Governor, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma has announced that they have unanimously agreed to fight security challenges in the region, both individually and collectively, in partnership with the Federal Government of Nigeria and other stakeholders. 

The security agencies received a commendation for their cooperation and achievements so far, and the forum encouraged them to keep up the good work. 

The forum also categorically stated that the perpetrators of insecurity and their sponsors in the region are criminals and should not be seen as legitimate agitators.

They announced that there will be a security and economic summit for the South East Region which will be held soon.

In attendance were Senator Hope Uzodimma, Governor of Imo State and Chairman of the SouthEast Forum; Professor Chukwuma Soludo, Governor of Anambra State; Dr. Alex Otti, Governor of Abia State; Rt. Hon. Francis Nwofuru, Governor of Ebonyi State, and Dr. Peter Mbah, Governor of Enugu State who is the host.
