 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. 'I WILL RUN AN OPEN DOOR POLICY', BETTA EDU ASSURES

Newly appointed minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, has declared that she will run an open door policy as minister of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation,

She stated this during a welcome ceremony at her official assumption of office as minister shortly after the swearing in ceremony of ministers at the Presidential villa, Monday in Abuja.

Edu assures that she is ready to work with stakeholders to ensure the furtherance staff of the ministry to recommit themselves to efficient service delivery to Nigerians.

“I am open to suggestions, I am open to advice so I will run an open door policy, I like to listen, I like to learn and I like to teach. I also like to push for results so I can call you at 2 AM bcause we have to get the job done.

“A lot of people in Nigeria are living under one dollar ninty cents per day, this will not continue, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said that this is the end, we must bring renewed hope.

“Finally, we will be reviewing a number of points as we go along. I will be bringing several innovations on board through the ministry and through the agencies that the ministry supervises but what is must important is that we keep our focus on lofty a hundred and twenty-tgree million Nigerians out of poverty and yes we can do it with determination and strong political backing from his excellency, (President Tinubu), till we achieve results,” she said

Edu said she is committed to ensuring that the ministry is one of the best and that staff welfare will be well catered for.
