 A Limpopo man who stabbed his girlfriend to death in front of his own mother will spend the next 20 years in prison. The Polokwane High Court sentenced 48 year old Nathaniel Molatelo Mokgehle from Sekonye Village in the Botlokwa policing area for the murder of his girlfriend, 41 year old Mokgadi Julia Mohlaela. The court heard he chased her out of the house and continued stabbing her until she collapsed and died. Mokgehle also received six months for malicious damage to property. The sentence will run at the same time as the 20 year murder sentence. Evidence presented in court showed the victim had previously opened a malicious damage to property case against him. He was still attending court for that case when the murder happened. The attack happened on 08 June 2025 around 16:00 at his mother’s home in Sekonye Village. Isese Day: Abiodun declares Monday Public Holiday 


Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has declared Monday, 21st August 2023 as public holiday to commemorate the annual Isese Day.


Isese Day is set aside by traditional religious worshippers to celebrate Yoruba culture and tradition.


Governor Abiodun, on 7th, March, 2023 issued an executive order, declaring August 20 of every year as Isese Day in Ogun State.


The state House of Assembly, on July 11, gave legal backing to the executive order.


Governor Abiodun, in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Lekan Adeniran on Saturday, praised the existing harmony among the adherents of all religions in the Gateway State.


He said the recognition granted Isese Day was to continue in the tradition of respecting the tradition of our people and ensure the continuation of the unity and harmony among the three major religions in the state.


Prince Abiodun reaffirmed his commitment to supporting and respecting all religions in the state.


He also expressed the commitment of his administration to promote, preserve and nurture the culture and tradition of our people.


While congratulating the traditional religion worshippers on the occasion, he also urged them to celebrate with decorum and avoud acts capable of threatening the existing peace in the state.


It would be recalled that Prince Abiodun established the board of Alternate Medicine on the 29th of September, 2020 to support alternative medical practitioners in the state.


This is in recognition of their roles as traditional birth attendants among other contributions to the wellbeing of the people of the state.

ISESE DAY 2023: LAGOS DECLARES MONDAY WORK FREE FOR STATE WORKERS


To commemorate the year 2023 Isese Day, the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has declared Monday August 21st as Work Free Day for all Public Servants in the State.


The Isese Day, has been set aside in Lagos to celebrate the indigenous Yoruba culture and traditions as well as the preservation of the Yoruba heritage.


According to a circular issued by the Lagos State  Head of Service, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola, this Year’s Isese Day celebration will hold on Sunday, 20th August, 2023.


He stated further that the declaration of Work Free Day by Governor Sanwo-Olu is reaffirmation of his “commitment to continue to provide necessary support to traditional institutions in the State with a view to promoting our indigenous culture and tradition while preserving our heritage”.


The circular announced Tuesday, 22nd August at 8a.m. prompt as resumption of work for all State workers.
