Nigerian Man K!lls 2-Year-Old Daughter, Blames Action On Local Alcoholic Beverage, 'Burukutu'

The Nigerian police have arrested one Ayuba Danbaki, 35, for allegedly killing his two-year-old daughter after an altercation with her mother in Adamawa State.

Danbaki, who reportedly strangled the child identified as Tamar Ayuba Danbaki with a rope, has confessed to the crime.

He said he buried his deceased daughter in a shallow grave.

The incident happened at Rigi village, Ga'anda District in the Gombi Local Government Area of the state after the murderous father consumed a local alcoholic beverage known as 'burukutu'.

The estranged wife of Danbaki and mother of the deceased, Shiyona Ali was said to have left the girl with her father who was at a local pub in the community around 8:00 pm, after she was reportedly fed up with the child's upkeep.

Danbaki reportedly became upset with the action of his former wife and he took the baby into the bush, strangled her with a rope and subsequently buried her in a shallow grave.

Ayuba said that he did not know the consequences of his action, adding that most of the people in their community were ignorant of the consequences of such a crime.

The 30-year-old mother of the deceased reported the matter to the state police command on August 8, 2023, which led to the arrest of the suspect. He thereafter led the police to where he buried his daughter.

While being interrogated by the spokesperson for the state police command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, on Wednesday, the suspect confessed, saying: "I killed my daughter because I became angry as to the reason why her mother will dump her with me at a local joint.

"I tied a rope around her neck, dug a grave and buried her. I'm married and blessed with six children, including the deceased. I became angry with her mother's action. It was a mistake."

"I drink local beer known as 'burukutu'. I want to use this opportunity to advise people not to drink beer because it is not good. It makes someone useless," he added.

Nguroje said the police commissioner, Babatola Afolabi, had ordered that the matter should be transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the command for discreet investigation.
