 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. Police arrests 94 year old man for allegedly defiling a minor

The police in Adamawa state have arrested a 94-year-old man identified as Mohammed Abubakar, for allegedly d£filing a 13-year-old minor in Tappare ward, Ganye local government area. 

The suspect who has been identified as a herbalist, is said to have been in the habit of deceiving young females by giving them sweet items. The police said on August 12 while the victim was passing by the suspect's house, he called her into the house and took advantage of her by having an unlawful c@rnal knowledge of her. 

‘’Investigation, so far reveals that the suspect while committing the act rubbed some concoction in the form of perfume on the victim. Which made the victim ill after the incident. It was as a result of the illness when questioned by her mother, she opened up to her about what had happened.'' The police said
 
The incident was reported to the Divisional Police Headquarters Ganye, by the mother of the victim.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said the state Commissioner of police CP Afolabi Babatola who frowned at the ugly incident has directed the officer in charge of the Family support unit of the command to take over the investigation and ensure diligent prosecution of the perpetrator. 

The Police Boss equally calls on the members of the public particularly parents to be watchful of their wards against criminally minded elements and key into the Command's effort in fighting to end all forms of Gender-based violence.
