 “No electricity, no vote,” South Africans threaten to shun ruling party ANC Residents in Katlehong, a township outside Johannesburg, have resolved to boycott South Africa's upcoming local elections on November 4 due to long-standing failures by authorities to provide basic services like electricity. For over 20 years, around 180 households in the community have relied on illegal electrical connections pulled from neighboring areas to power their homes. Angry over the lack of formal grid infrastructure, residents are directing their frustration at the ruling African National Congress (ANC). "We have made a collective decision: no electricity, no vote," said community leader Lesiba Rankapole, 59. "We know it is illegal, but we had no choice because we cannot live without electricity.  Transportation Minister visits Abuja train station, says NRC MD may face disciplinary action


The Minister of Transportation, Saidu Alkali, said that the Managing Director of the Nigeria Railway Corporation might face disciplinary action.


AIkali disclosed this on Sunday when he paid an unscheduled visit to the Idu Train station in Abuja.


During the visit, the minister who personally inspected the coaches discovered several issues that needed urgent attention.


He said, “I received a complaint from the security escorts that in the last five months their allowances were not paid and I am happy that the MD of NRC is appearing before the ministry on Tuesday to brief. So, if he comes I am now well informed the lifts and escalators aren’t working, which makes it very difficult for the elderly and the disabled persons to use the train for travelling.


“Therefore, he would explain why disciplinary action wouldn’t be taken against him."
