 INEC to Display Candidate Lists for 2027 Governorship and Assembly Elections on Saturday The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will on Saturday, August 29, publish the lists of candidates nominated by political parties for the February 6, 2027, governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections. Governorship elections will be held in 28 states, while state Houses of Assembly polls will take place in all 36 states of the federation. According to the electoral timetable, governorship elections are scheduled in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Delta, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, Kwara, Benue, Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa, Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Taraba, Bauchi, Gombe, Jigawa, Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Zamfara, Kebbi and Sokoto states. No governorship elections will be conducted in Ondo, Osun, Ekiti, Edo, Bayelsa, Anambra, Imo and Kogi states, where polls were held at different times under the staggered electoral cycle. Two suspectes arrested as police rescue two year old child abducted while playing with friends in Asaba

Men of the Delta state police command have arrested a suspected two child traffickers and rescued a two-year-old child. A statement released by the command's spokesperson, DSP Bright Edafe, today August 5, says on August 3, the command received information from a resident of Jaret in Asaba, that on August 2, her child Ridwan Ibrahim ‘m’ aged 2yrs went missing while playing with other children in the compound of her sister whom she went to visit. 

‘’Based on this information, the Commissioner of Police Delta State CP Wale Abass psc, detailed operatives of SIB to embark on an intelligence-led investigation. The team swung into action, analyzing the phone conversation of some suspected person. Consequently,  on 3/8/2023, two suspects namely Mallam Sa’ad Ahmed Baba ‘m’ aged 57yrs of no. 12 Lagos Street, cable point Asaba and Halima Abubakar ‘f’ aged 25ys of Jaret cable point Asaba were arrested, and the child was rescued at Issele-Asagba where they hid the child. Investigation is ongoing.'' he said

He added that the state Commissioner of Police, Wale Abass, called on parents and guardians to be cautious and pay close attention to their children and wards in other not to fall victim while assuring residents that the Command will not allow these criminal syndicates to thrive in the State. The CP therefore calls for support from members of the public especially in the area of providing credible,  timely, and useful information that will aid in crime fighting to the Police.
