 “No electricity, no vote,” South Africans threaten to shun ruling party ANC Residents in Katlehong, a township outside Johannesburg, have resolved to boycott South Africa's upcoming local elections on November 4 due to long-standing failures by authorities to provide basic services like electricity. For over 20 years, around 180 households in the community have relied on illegal electrical connections pulled from neighboring areas to power their homes. Angry over the lack of formal grid infrastructure, residents are directing their frustration at the ruling African National Congress (ANC). "We have made a collective decision: no electricity, no vote," said community leader Lesiba Rankapole, 59. "We know it is illegal, but we had no choice because we cannot live without electricity.  APC Vows To Arrest Anyone If They Protest, Disrupt President Tinubu UN Outing


The APC said Nigerians living in US must be wary of a planned protest ahead of President Tinubu’s visit to the United Nations General Assembly on September 20.


The United States chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has stated that any Nigerian who “disrupts” the visit of President Bola Tinubu with protests “will face arrest and prosecution to the fullest extent of the legal framework.”


The APC said Nigerians living in US must be wary of a planned protest ahead of President Tinubu’s visit to the United Nations General Assembly on September 20.


Tinubu is expected to address the 78th Session of the high-level UNGA General Debate at the UN headquarters in New York.


He will be the fifth African leader to speak on day one of the gathering, according to the list of speakers released by the Office of the General Assembly President.


The President’s proposed visit has however generated mixed feelings with some Nigerians in the Diaspora saying they would resist his coming.


Reacting in a statement issued on Tuesday, the Chairman of the United States chapter of the APC, Prof. Tai Balofin, claimed that a suspended party member, Adesegun Labinjo, was allegedly masterminding the rally.
