  A manhunt is underway for man who shot a Granite City Police Officer multiple times. Officers in Granite City, Illinois, responded to a call regarding a unwanted subject near the 2000 block of Johnson Road at 2:20 p.m. on Friday, December 5th. Upon arrival, officers attempted to make contact with the suspect. The suspect opened fire on officers before fleeing the scene.  Unfortunately, one officer was struck multiple times. The officer was rushed to a St. Louis University Hospital. He is expected to make a full recovery.  A massive manhunt is now underway to locate the suspect. Authorities warn the public that the man is considered armed and dangerous. ASHIA commences third phase enrollment exercise of beneficiaries into BHCPF

The Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA) has commenced the third phase enrollment of beneficiaries into the Basic Healthcare Provision fund (BHCPF) provided by the Federal Government of Nigeria and implemented through State Health Insurance Schemes.


The BHCPF, which was officially launched on January 18, 2021 is a Federal Government initiative that covers 100% of the cost of receiving healthcare services for the disabled, vulnerable and poor indigenes of the State. 


Explaining reasons behind the additional enrollment, the Managing Director (MD) of ASHIA, Dr Simeon Onyemaechi said, “the plan is to replace the deceased or those enrollees that have never used the programme since inception, with the community members whose names are in the state social register. 


He further noted that this phase of enrollment will focus on the under-five children, pregnant women, the elderly and those with disability from the register to benefit from the programme.


The program according to Dr. Onyemaechi will ensure that the health indices of the state improves rapidly, as access will be expanded to the poor members of the society to quality healthcare services.


He encouraged Ndi Anambra to utilise the services provided by the scheme instead of continuing with the practise of patronising quacks for serious health challenges that have resulted in preventable death among our people. (Ministry of Information)
