 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. Coco Gauff wins first U.S. Open trophy

Coco Gauff came from one set down on Saturday to defeat Belarussian Aryna Sabalenka to clinch her first US Open title.
The 19 year-old American defeated the 25 year-old woman who will become World No. 1 on Monday 2-6 6-3 6-2.
Gauff will be the 10th teen to win the U.S. Open women’s singles championship — and the youngest American to claim the title since Serena Williams won in 1999 at the age of 17.
With the win, Gauff also became the first American to win a U.S. Open title since Sloane Stephens in 2017.
She clinched the U.S. Open trophy in her second Grand Slam final, the first in the French Open.
Some other young female winners of the U.S. Open were:
Tracy Austin who won in 1979 at 16 years, eight months and 28 days; Martina Hingis won in 1997 at the age of 16 years, 11 months, eight days; while Monica Seles won in 1991 at 17 years, nine months and five days.
