 “No electricity, no vote,” South Africans threaten to shun ruling party ANC Residents in Katlehong, a township outside Johannesburg, have resolved to boycott South Africa's upcoming local elections on November 4 due to long-standing failures by authorities to provide basic services like electricity. For over 20 years, around 180 households in the community have relied on illegal electrical connections pulled from neighboring areas to power their homes. Angry over the lack of formal grid infrastructure, residents are directing their frustration at the ruling African National Congress (ANC). "We have made a collective decision: no electricity, no vote," said community leader Lesiba Rankapole, 59. "We know it is illegal, but we had no choice because we cannot live without electricity. Coco Gauff wins first U.S. Open trophy

Coco Gauff came from one set down on Saturday to defeat Belarussian Aryna Sabalenka to clinch her first US Open title.
The 19 year-old American defeated the 25 year-old woman who will become World No. 1 on Monday 2-6 6-3 6-2.
Gauff will be the 10th teen to win the U.S. Open women’s singles championship — and the youngest American to claim the title since Serena Williams won in 1999 at the age of 17.
With the win, Gauff also became the first American to win a U.S. Open title since Sloane Stephens in 2017.
She clinched the U.S. Open trophy in her second Grand Slam final, the first in the French Open.
Some other young female winners of the U.S. Open were:
Tracy Austin who won in 1979 at 16 years, eight months and 28 days; Martina Hingis won in 1997 at the age of 16 years, 11 months, eight days; while Monica Seles won in 1991 at 17 years, nine months and five days.
