 Supreme court ruling path to Labour Party's peace and unity - Otti Abia State Governor Alex Otti has welcomed the Supreme Court's decision to remove Julius Abure as National Chairman of the Labour Party. According to Governor Otti, this ruling will usher in a new era of peace, unity, and order within the party. The Governor believes the Supreme Court's judgment vindicates the party's leadership, particularly since Abure's National Working Committee tenure had long expired. This led to the establishment of a National Caretaker Committee, headed by Esther Nenadi Usman and Darlington Nwokocha, with a vision to foster peace and unity while strengthening the party. The Supreme Court's decision is seen as a step towards restoring peace and unity within the Labour Party, validating the party's leadership and the decision to set up a caretaker committee. LABOUR PARTY REJECTS THE PEPC JUDGEMENT
 

The Labour Party watched with dismay and trepidation the dismissal of petitions by the five-man panel of the Presidential Election Petition Court led by Justice Haruna Tsammani today and we reject the outcome of the judgment in its entirety because justice was not served and it did not reflect the law and the desire of the people. 
Nigerians were witnesses to the electoral robbery that took place on February 25, 2023, which was globally condemned but the Tribunal in its wisdom refused to accept the obvious.

What is at stake is democracy and we will not relent until the people will prevail.
We salute the doggedness of our team of lawyers who fearlessly exposed the wrath in our system. We can only weep for democracy in Nigeria but we refuse to give up on Nigeria. Details of the party's position will be presented after consultation with our lawyers after the Certified True Copy of the judgement is made available to us.
We urge all lovers of democracy to remain focused and hopeful because a new Nigeria is possible.

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. “The Appellant was set up. The Appellant is an actor. He acted in a script that he was invited to act by his colleague (PW1), Damilola Adekoya,” he said.
