 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. Ohaneze Ndigbo Inaugurates New Executive In Anambra East

The President General (PG) of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Anambra State chapter, Chief Obi Chukwuemekalum has called on all the Igbos to always maintain Igbo values and traditions , mostly Igbo language and dressing in order to promote our Igbo culture.

Chief Obi made the call during the inauguration of the new executive of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Anambra East chapter at the council hall, Otuocha.

He adviced the traditional rulers to sensitize Igbo women on the need to dress decently in their various communities.

The PG called on the new executive to regularly pay homage to traditional rulers in Anambra East during community festivals or cultural displays in a a bid to promote Igbo cultures and traditions.

The former President of ASATU, and the chairman of the occasion, Chief Alex Onukwe thanked the PG, Chief Obi for all his efforts to take Anambra State Ohaneze Ndigbo to a greater height , praying that God should fortify him with wisdom.

He called on the new executive to unite ttemselves to achieve a common goal as well making sure that Igbo values are their main priority.

The Chairman, Ohaneze Ndigbo Anambra East chapter, Dr. Marcel Molokwu said that his administration will continue to rob minds for the progress, security, and mobilization of the people at the grassroot to have people oriented Anambra East Ohaneze.

He said that their immediate priorities are; to mobilize and sensitize across eleven communities of the local government to become a powerful force in Ohaneze Anambra East for positive change in their respective communities.

"To organize seminnar programmes for our youths and sensitize them on the importance of hardwork, honest living, adverse effect of drug abuses and fraudulent practices such as " yahoo business."

An award of excellence was given to some persons for their effort and support to Ohaneze ndigbo Anambra East chapter.

Member representing Anambra East at Anambra State Assembly, Barr. Obi Nweke and Umueri President General, Amb. John Metchie who were among the awardees, thanked the chairman of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Anambra East chapter for the award given to them as examplary leaders and best president general of the year 2023.

They promised to help in developing Igbo values and traditions in the area. (Ministry of Information).
