 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. 2 People Suffocate In Kano Diesel Tank

The Kano state fire service has confirmed the death of two people, who suffocated while washing a diesel reservoir tank, at Katsina road by Baban Gwari roundabout,Fagge local government area.

The Public Relations officer,Kano state fire service , Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi,made the disclosure to newsmen in Kano.

According to him,the agency recieved an emergency call from inspector Abubakar Surajo that two men, 40 year old Philip Osando and 35 year Philip Emmanuel were trapped in a diesel reservoir tank.

Saminu said,reports indicate that, the two men,both staff of an outdoor advertising agency were instructed to purify the tank to receive diesel.

The public relations officer noted that,all efforts to reach them by the truck driver conveying the diesel proved abortive,which prompted him to raise alarm.

He pointed out that, on arrival the rescue team evacuated them unconscious, and conveyed them to a healthcare facility where doctors confirmed their death.

Saminu noted that, the Kano state fire service has lunched an investigation, to unravel the mystery behind their death.

The public relations officer advised the public, to maintain safety at all times ,and report cases of drowning,collapsed building,road accidents and fire incident to the nearest fire service office.

Last year a generator operator in Kano, lost his life while trying to retrieve diesel from a reservoir into a Jerry can.
