 Niger says military activity in capital brought under control Niger's defense minister said Saturday that military activity in the capital, Niamey, had been brought under control and security forces had regained control of critical sites that were targeted. Gen. Salifou Mody's remarks were broadcast on national television after heavy gunfire and explosions were reported around Diori Hamani International Airport and the presidential palace in Niamey. Mody said a group of soldiers had "broken away from military order" and attempted to detain some of their fellow soldiers at the Base 101 military facility in Niamey before opening fire on several critical sites in the capital. He said the activity was brought under control thanks to the swift intervention of Nigerien defense and security forces, adding that control was gradually restored in the targeted areas. Mody urged residents of Niamey to remain calm and continue their daily activities as usual.

Anambra State Government Hands Over 5 Roads Construction Sites to Contractors

The Anambra State Government has handed over five roads construction sites to various contractors across the State for immediate construction, with a charge for speedy completion.

The Commissioner for Works and Housing, Engr. Ifeanyi Okoma gave the charge after taking the Contractors round the roads.

The roads inspected and handed over include:
*Construction of Amansea-Ifite Road-Aroma-Overpass-Ekwueme-Government House Road to GELD Construction Ltd.
*Rehabilitation Works on Uga-Umuchu-Umunze Road to Constech Nig. Ltd.
*Construction of Nnokwa -Awka Etiti Road to IIC Eng. Ltd.
*Construction of Umunze-Eziagu Road to Brecco Construction Company Ltd.
*Construction of Ekwulobia Stadium to MO&C Int'l Ltd.

Engr Okoma, charged the Contractors to justify the confidence reposed on them by delivering the work to specifications and timely completion of the projects in line with Gov. Charles Soludo's mantra of creating a livable and prosperous homeland.

Responding, the Project Engineer GELD Construction Ltd, Engr. Slavisa Ivanovich, MD Constech Nig Ltd, Mr. Cyprian Okpala, MD, IIC Engineering Company, Engr. Chikereuba, Project Manager, Brecco Construction Company Ltd, Mr. Freddy Al Skaf, and the Managing Director MO&C Int'l Ltd, Chief Charles Obiekwe thanked Gov. Soludo for awarding the projects to their companies.

They assured that their Companies would deliver the jobs according to specifications and promised to justify the confidence reposed on them by the State Government, by ensuring standard and delivering the projects within the timelines. (Ministry of Information).
