 Panic as Oyo demolishes shop in popular Ibadan market Panic gripped residents and traders of the popular Ojoo market in the Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State as the government demolished scores of shops and kiosks in the area, on Thursday. The PUNCH gathered that the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development had served the traders quit notice a long time ago but they refused to move out of the market. The Chairman of the market,  Muhdeen Ganiyu, fondly called Elewedu, however, told our correspondent that the quit notice was too short but the executive members of all the affected markers would meet after the demolition exercise. “The quit notice was too short. COAS COMMISSIONS FIRE STATION, BLOCKS OF ACCOMMODATION FOR SOLDIERS IN LAGOS


The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja has commissioned a newly constructed Fire Station at Bonny Cantonment. The Army Chief noted that the Fire station became necessary to ensure the safety of lives and property in the cantonment. He added that the station would also serve to support emergency and response agencies, when the need arises. 

Similarly, the COAS has equally inaugurated newly constructed 30 blocks of flats to accommodate soldiers of the rank Corporal and below at 174 Battalion, Odogunyan Barracks, Ikorodu, Lagos state. According to the COAS, the project was executed to improve the welfare of troops and that of their families.

Other projects commissioned by the COAS in the barracks are three renovated and remodeled 12 units Corporal Below Quarters. The commissioning of the housing projects ignited moments of electrifying joy, as soldiers and their families, who witnessed the commissioning of the housing projects cheered in appreciation. 

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, General Lagbaja stated that he was particularly impressed, seeing the quality of work done and expressed optimism that the projects will no doubt, stand the test of time.

All after the project inauguration, the COAS also addressed troops of 81 Division, charging them to be law abiding and ensure compliance with the laws of Lagos State. The COAS assured the troops that their welfare and that of their families will not be taken for granted under his administration. He further called on the troops to remain committed in the fight against insecurity in their areas of responsibility.
 
The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division, Maj Gen Mohammed Usman, who had earlier briefed the COAS on the security situation of the Division's area of responsibility, expressed appreciation for his support to the Division. He assured the COAS of the Division's commitment to Nigerian Army's mission by loyally keying to the COAS' Command Philosophy.
