  A 23-year-old Nigerian woman identified as Osarugbe, has died in Libya. African beauty products   She passed away at about 11:33am on Friday, April 4, 2025 after battling illness.    Anti-human trafficking advocate, Yakubu Oyiza and her team had been raising money to bring her back to Nigeria for better medical treatment as hospitals in Libya rejected her.    According to Oyiza, documents for burial, autopsy, and land to bury her in Libya have been arranged, all costing approximately 350,000.   She alleged that the family abandoned her since she fell sick and had earlier refused to go to Kano and pick her up the day she was supposed to be brought back to Nigeria.    In a Facebook post on Saturday, April 5, Oyiza revealed that some family members of the deceased called them asking for Osasā€™ properties. LAGOS AMONG 12 CITIES SELECTED FOR JIMMY CARTER FOUNDATION CAMPAIGN


The City of Lagos is among the 12 Cities selected for the Jimmy Carter Centre Pro-Women Campaign, shortlisted from over 300 Cities that earlier took part in the competition about two months ago.
 
The ā€œInform Women, Transform Livesā€ Campaign aims to make a difference in the lives of women in Lagos State.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu broke the news while opening the campaign at the Bagaulda Kaltho Press Centre, Alausa. 

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, the Governor said the campaign was targeted at alleviating the plight of women, especially those at the grassroots in line with the THEMES+ agenda of his administration, which has given priority attention to Social Inclusion, Gender Equality and Youth Development.

Sanwo-Olu noted that the campaign would provide a platform for women to receive information from all tiers of government, irrespective of their status, tribe and religion.

The theme of the City of Lagos version of the "Inform Women, Transform Lives Campaignā€ according to him, is ā€œGender Equality and Inclusivityā€. The campaign is designed to raise awareness on where and how women can easily get information about city services that would be of benefit to them.

According to Governor Sanwo-Olu: ā€œThe driving force behind our success at the competition was made possible through contributions by the Ministries of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Information and Strategy, Youth and Social Development, Commerce, Cooperative, Trade and Investment as well as the contribution of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Legal Mattersā€.

Expressing the commitment of Governor Sanwo-Olu to the development of women by creating a level playing ground for them. 
Speaking earlier, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, who was accompanied by his Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade and Investment counterpart, Mrs. Folashade Ambrose-Medebem and Youth and Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende as well as other state officials and stakeholders, said the inclusive campaign would be focused on information dissemination, particularly to women and girls, to transform their lives positively.

The Carter Centre was founded in 1982 by Mr. Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States from 1977 to 1981 and his wife, Mrs. Rosalyn Carter. It is a non-governmental organisation helping to improve the lives of people in more than 80 countries by resolving conflicts, advancing democracy and human rights, preventing diseases and improving mental health care. The Foundation is committed to human rights and the alleviation of human suffering.

Other cities participating in the campaign are Accra, Ghana; Baltimore, Maryland; Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania; Glasgow, Scotland; Kathmandu, Nepal; Merida, Mexico; Quezon City, Philippines; Quito, Ecuador; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Rotterdam, The Netherlands and Santiago, Chile.
