 Military judge suppresses Khalid Sheikh Mohammed’s FBI confession in 9/11 case A military judge has excluded a confession that alleged Sept. 11 attacks mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed gave to FBI agents nearly 20 years ago, ruling that the statements were not made voluntarily. The decision is a setback for the U.S. government's long-running effort to prosecute Mohammed, who is accused of helping develop the plot to hijack planes and crash them into the World Trade Center and Pentagon. Mohammed remains detained at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, alongside other defendants awaiting trial. Lt. Col. Michael Schrama, the judge overseeing the case, scheduled a June 2028 trial for Mohammed and three other defendants earlier this week. In an order issued Friday that has not been made public, Schrama barred prosecutors from using statements Mohammed made during four days of FBI questioning at Guantanamo in January 2007. Rivers govt denies sack of Chief Judge, suspension of LG chairmen

The Rivers State Government has dismissed reports that it has sacked the Chief Judge, CJ, of the state, Justice Simeon Amadi, and suspended the chairmen of the 23 Local Government Areas in the state.

Following the crisis between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and some members of the State Assembly, there were reports that the government has sacked the CJ and the LG chairmen.

The state Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joe Johnson in a statement on Tuesday, clarified that the governor has not given such a directive.

The commissioner further appealed to Rivers people and the general public to ignore the reports.

Johnson assured that the public will be properly informed of persons who may be dismissed at the appropriate time.

He reiterated the governor’s will to work according to the laid down rules and with the fear of God.

The statement said, “There had been unfounded reports making the rounds on various media platforms about His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, sacking certain categories of his aides and local council chairmen.

“This is to clarify that His Excellency has not given me such a directive as the official spokesman of the state government as of today, Tuesday, October 31, 2023.

“Our dear governor is a technocrat, with a robust civil service background, kind-hearted and a very humane person who does things according to laid down rules and with the fear of God.

“We therefore ask Rivers people and the general public to jettison such unconfirmed reports as the public will be properly informed of who may have been removed by His Excellency at the appropriate time.

“It is pertinent to note that as the Commissioner for Information and Communication, I shall keep the public updated on events in due course.”
