 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. TRIBUNAL UPHOLDS GOV. AHMADU UMARU FINTIRI'S ELECTION. (PHOTOS).

Tribunal Upholds Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri's Election

 The Adamawa state Governorship election tribunal has dismissed the case of Sen Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed Binani of the All Progressive congress (APC) challenging the victory and declaration of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of the People's Democratic party (PDP) as winner in the Governorship election of Adamawa state.

 The tribunal has affirmed the victory of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri in the February 2023 general election.

 The tribunal presided over by the leading judge, justice Theodora Oloho, justice Mustapha Ramat and justice Umar Abdulnasir, said, the petitioner had failed to establish their allegations of non compliance with the electoral act and prove their case with cogent, credible and satisfactory evidences.

She said, all the documents tendered by the petitioner were irrelevant and their Star witness did not demonstrate any of the documents to link it with any of their material allegations in the petition.

 According to her, Br, Hudu Yunusa Ari has no constitutional power to declare the result, as his roles and duties are that of supervision and administration but not to declare a winner.

Theodora further said, the Returning Officer was the one responsible for collation, tabulation, announcement and declaration of winner.

 The presiding judge said, their roles are distinct and clear, as its clearly stated in the section 25 of the electoral act.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri expressed his sincere appreciation to the Almighty God for the victory in the tribunal.

He also commended the overall effort, prayers, resilience and corporation of the good people of the state.
