 Dutch referee Rob Dieperink dies weeks after removal from World Cup officiating list Dutch referee Rob Dieperink has died at the age of 38, weeks after FIFA removed him from its list of officials for the World Cup. The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) confirmed his death in a statement, saying it was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the news. His cause of death has not been disclosed. Dieperink was arrested in April by the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom following a report of an alleged sexual assault involving a teenage boy in London. A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said officers responded on April 9 to a report of sexual assault at an address in Croydon and arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of the offence. Police later said that after reviewing available evidence, including CCTV footage and digital devices, the investigation had concluded that “the evidential threshold had not been met” and no further action would be taken. Vice President Shettima Arrives In Beijing

Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Beijing, China, on Monday to attend the 3rd Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. 

The Vice President, was received at the Beijing International Airport by the Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Beijing Municipal People’s Congress, Mr Li Yingjin, and the Deputy Director of the African Affairs Department of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr Yu Yong.

Nigeria’s Ambassador to China, Baba Jidda, was also on hand to receive the nation’s number two citizen.

He will join world leaders from over 130 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America at the Forum to deliberate on the theme, “High-quality Belt and Road Cooperation: Together for Common Development and Prosperity.”

Shettima is also billed to hold bilateral meetings with other world leaders to promote the country’s trade and investment relations in line with the economic development agenda of the Tinubu administration.

The 2023 edition of the BRI, will mark the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), championed by the President of China, Xi Jinping, as an initiative for global infrastructure development strategy.

Beijing, the capital city of China, is wearing a new look in readiness to host leaders from all parts of the world.

Chinese President Xi Jinping will declare the summit open and deliver a keynote address at the opening ceremony on Tuesday, October 17, 2023.
