 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. Vice President Shettima Arrives In Beijing

Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Beijing, China, on Monday to attend the 3rd Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. 

The Vice President, was received at the Beijing International Airport by the Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Beijing Municipal People’s Congress, Mr Li Yingjin, and the Deputy Director of the African Affairs Department of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr Yu Yong.

Nigeria’s Ambassador to China, Baba Jidda, was also on hand to receive the nation’s number two citizen.

He will join world leaders from over 130 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America at the Forum to deliberate on the theme, “High-quality Belt and Road Cooperation: Together for Common Development and Prosperity.”

Shettima is also billed to hold bilateral meetings with other world leaders to promote the country’s trade and investment relations in line with the economic development agenda of the Tinubu administration.

The 2023 edition of the BRI, will mark the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), championed by the President of China, Xi Jinping, as an initiative for global infrastructure development strategy.

Beijing, the capital city of China, is wearing a new look in readiness to host leaders from all parts of the world.

Chinese President Xi Jinping will declare the summit open and deliver a keynote address at the opening ceremony on Tuesday, October 17, 2023.
