 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. Woman arrests kidnapper of her daughter in Zaria

A suspect who reportedly abducted a girl in Zaria and demanded ransom for her release has been arrested by the girl’s mother.
A source told DAILY POST that one Aminu Ibrahim, aged 35, was suspected to have abducted a young woman, Fatima Adamu, aged 23, who he allegedly killed and buried her.
Speaking at her residence, the mother of the kidnapped young woman, Mallama Nana Fatima while speaking at her residence could not explain further due to her grief at the incident.
Hajara Adamu, a younger sister to the victim, explained that Fatima had travelled to Kaduna with the intention of spending four days, saying that several phone calls were put to her without response when she did not return at the stipulated time.
Hajara claimed it was later that a man picked her call and told the family that Fatima had been abducted by him and demanded N100,000 as ransom, stressing that the amount was raised by the family and given to the suspect at an appointed place in Wusasa, Zaria.
The sister further explained that the suspect who promised to release the victim that day, did not but after three days, called back and demanded another N100,000.
At this point, the mother and the sister, after selling her plot of land, took the money to the designated meeting point in Wusasa, where she saw and recognised the suspect after coming down from a commercial motorcycle, popularly called Okada.
According to Fatima, she instantly raised an alarm that attracted people to the scene who helped in arresting the suspect and handed him over to the Dan Magaji Division Police Station for interrogation.
The suspect confessed to the crime and took the police to his residence in Limancin Iya, Zaria, where he was suspected of having buried the abducted young woman, saying that the victim died in their custody and they buried her in his residence at Limancin Iya.
The spokesman of the Kaduna State Police Command, ASP Mansir Hassan, confirmed the arrest of the suspect, saying that the investigation was ongoing.
