Abia Central: ‘Nwokocha still in Senate’ – LP rejects appeal court verdict

Abia State chapter of the Labour Party, LP, has declared that Senator Darlington Nwokocha is still in the Senate, saying that Saturday’s Appeal Court judgement that removed him, was done in error and can’t stand.
According to the party, the LP family in Abia has been in shock since the news of Nwokocha’s removal broke on Saturday.
The position of the LP was made known by the Chairman of the party in Abia State, Ceakay Igara, during a press conference in Umuahia.
Igara, who described the Appeal Court ruling as judicial rascality, claimed that the judgement was smuggled in, as, according to him, the Certified True Copy has not been made available.
He noted that since the Supreme Court had, in various judgements, decided the issues of Section 77 of the Electoral Act, there was no basis to rely on the same internal party matter to remove Nwokocha.
He further claimed that the judgement amounted to an imposition on the people of Abia Central.
The LP Chairman urged the members of the panel to reverse themselves and return Nwokocha to the red chamber.
” We are more shocked by by the rascality of judiciary, especially muscling of the judgements, divisive judgements.
” Since all the judgement of the day was based on Section 77, he should reverse himself again.
“We know Senator Darlington has not been removed, he remains our only Senator for Abia Central,” the Abia LP chairman said.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Abia State has been in celebration mood following the judgement which returned the party’s candidate, Austin Akobundu, as the senator for Abia Central.
