 *[POLICE PRESS RELEASE]* EKITI POLICE ARREST 11 SUSPECTS OVER ATTACK ON OMOYELE SOWORE IN ADO-EKITI; INVESTIGATION CONTINUES.  The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested eleven (11) suspects in connection with the alleged attack on Mr Omoyele Sowore, an African Action Congress (AAC) presidential aspirant, and other persons at Tawakalitu Restaurant, Dalimore Area of Ado-Ekiti. Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad(RRS), based on a credible tip-off swooped on the hideouts of the suspects at Atikankan Area of Ado-Ekiti at about 10:00 p.m. on Friday, October 30, 2026, where they were arrested. The suspects are: Joseph Tayo '32yrs', Olatunji Abayomi '41yrs', Isaac Amba '22yrs', Kehinde Ajigbana '18yrs', Tosin David '18yrs', Solomon Iyanu '18yrs', Ogunsola Ayomide '21yrs', Ojo Ayodeji '22yrs', Kayode Dada '32yrs', Segun Olatunji '28yrs' and Salami Emmanuel '53yrs'. Appeal Court affirms Benue Governor’s victory

The Court of Appeal, sitting in Abuja, on Monday, Nov. 20, affirmed the election of Hyacinth Alia as governor of Benue State while dismissing the appeal by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its candidate in the last governorship election, Titus Uba. 

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the March 18 governorship election, Titus Uba had approached the appellate court to set aside the judgment of the tribunal which upheld Alia’s election. 

At the tribunal, Uba among other things alleged that Alia’s deputy, Samuel Ode, presented a forged certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission contrary to Section 182(1)(j) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended). 

He also claimed that Alia’s name was submitted less than 180 days before the election date, and Ode was also not submitted to INEC after the party conducted a further re-run primary election. 

Alia contested on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as the winner of the governorship election held on March 18. 

A three-member panel of the tribunal, headed by Justice Ibrahim Karaye, dismissed the petition on the ground that it was a pre-election matter and was statute-barred. 

Ruling on the appeal on Monday, the appeal court’s three-member panel led by Justice Onyekachi Aja Otisi held that the Uba failed to prove beyond reasonable doubt the allegations of forgery against Ode.
