  The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has dismissed a viral claim circulating on social media about the introduction of new ₦5,000 and ₦10,000 banknotes, labeling it as fake news. The claim, which included fabricated images of the supposed new denominations featuring Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe and Chief Obafemi Awolowo, falsely stated that the new notes would enter circulation from May 1, 2025. In a statement on its verified Facebook account, the CBN clarified that the content is not from the bank and directed the public to its official website, (www.cbn.gov.ng), for authentic information. The bank warned against spreading misinformation regarding monetary policies and urged Nigerians to rely only on official statements from its verified channels. The CBN reaffirmed that any major policy decision, including the introduction of new banknotes, would be announced through its official platforms. Appeal Court Annuls Zamfara Governor's Election, Orders Rerun

In a landmark decision, the Court of Appeal in Abuja overturned the election victory of Governor Dauda Lawal in Zamfara State. Governor Lawal, who secured the governorship seat following the March 18 election, had his win invalidated by a three-member panel of justices.

This ruling comes after a legal tussle initiated by the All Progressives Congress (APC) against Lawal's victory under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Despite the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) initially declaring Lawal as the winner, the tribunal's decision to uphold his election was challenged by the APC.

The Court of Appeal's judgment now demands a rerun of the election in three specific local government areas: Maradun, Birnin Magaji, and Bukuyun. This development signals a significant shift in Zamfara's political landscape, setting the stage for a fresh electoral contest in these crucial areas.

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. “The Appellant was set up.
