Yemen fighting pushes nearly 3,000 to Djibouti in less than a week: UN    Nearly 3,000 people have fled Yemen for Djibouti in less than a week as escalating violence drives growing displacement within the country and across its borders, the UN refugee agency said Friday. “Refugees continue to arrive by boat through Obock, Khor Angar, Moulhoule and Godoria after difficult journeys in small vessels,” UNHCR representative in Djibouti Sandrine Desamours told reporters in Geneva, Anadolu Agency reported. More than half of those crossing the Bab el-Mandeb Strait are women and children, while some families have been displaced for a second time after previously fleeing Yemen during the 2015 crisis and later returning. UNHCR is preparing for at least 10,000 new arrivals but warned that capacity is rapidly diminishing. Appeal Court Annuls Zamfara Governor's Election, Orders Rerun

In a landmark decision, the Court of Appeal in Abuja overturned the election victory of Governor Dauda Lawal in Zamfara State. Governor Lawal, who secured the governorship seat following the March 18 election, had his win invalidated by a three-member panel of justices.

This ruling comes after a legal tussle initiated by the All Progressives Congress (APC) against Lawal's victory under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Despite the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) initially declaring Lawal as the winner, the tribunal's decision to uphold his election was challenged by the APC.

The Court of Appeal's judgment now demands a rerun of the election in three specific local government areas: Maradun, Birnin Magaji, and Bukuyun. This development signals a significant shift in Zamfara's political landscape, setting the stage for a fresh electoral contest in these crucial areas.
