OVER 25 MILLION PHONES STOLEN IN ONE YEAR- FG. (PHOTO).

 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. CRIME BULLETIN


Bauchi Police encountered and neutralized one (1) kidnapper, rescued six (6) people including a 17yrs old girl from the kidnappers’ den; recovered a stolen SON’s BUS within Bauchi metro; and arrested three (3) suspects for different Culpable Homicides in Toro, Yana (Shira) and Alkaleri LGAs, Bauchi State respectively.


RESCUE OF KIDNAPPED VICTIMS


On 01/11/2023 at about 1630hrs a combined team of Policemen in a joint operation with JTF and local hunters drafted to Toro, Tilden Fulani Division acted on intelligence and raided two identified suspected kidnappers’ enclaves in both Angwari and Saya mountains in the area. The joint operational team engaged the kidnappers in a gun dwell which forced the armed hoodlums to scamper in disarray with possible serious bullet wounds. More so, one Rashida Hamisu 'f' aged 17yrs and five (5) other kidnapped victims were rescued unhurt. One of the hoodlums was neutralized in the process. The rescued victims were taken to Toro General Hospital for medical attention after which they were reunited with their family members. At the moment, efforts are on top gear to hunt down the hoodlums. An investigation is ongoing.


RECOVERY OF STOLEN VEHICLE 


On 30/10/2023 at about 2100hrs information at the Command disposal indicated that some group of hoodlums numbering about three (3) attacked a driver attached to Standard Organization of Nigeria, (SON) around New GRA Bauchi and ran away with a white Toyota Hix Bus. 

On receiving the information, the team of detectives led by CSP Makama Magaji, Officer in charge of the Anti Kidnapping Unit (AKU),  the team intercepted the Toyota Bus around the Maiduguri bypass. The suspected thieves are alleged to be heading out of the state vehicle to an unknown destination.  However, on sighting the Police, the hoodlums took to their heels. 

Subsequently, during an interview with the driver “Sani Ahmed”, he disclosed that on the same date at about 2033hrs he came back from official duty in Azare, Katagum LGA, Bauchi, to Bauchi town where he went to drop one of his co-workers, Mohammed Mohammed at his residence situated at new GRA, Bauchi metropolis. While on his way back, the driver stopped to buy Akara (Kosai) along the GRA road, some unknown gunmen armed with pistols entered the bus and asked him to drive the bus but he refused, therefore, they threatened him with a pistol. terrified, he drove the car to the bypass road and he was rescued by the Police. Efforts have been made to trace and arrest the culprits on the run. 


ARMED ROBBERY AND CULPABLE HOMICIDE


On 13/10/2023 at about 1930hrs one Usman Mohammad ‘m’ aged 38yrs of Gorondo village via Alkaleri LGA, Bauchi State, reported at the Divisional headquarters Kirfi that on the same date at about 1540hrs, one Yakubu Adamu ‘m’ aged 25yrs of Kumbi village via Alkaleri LGA, armed with a shape knife attacked his younger brother, named Yayaji Abubakar ‘m’ aged 25yrs of the same address where he robbed him of his red Bajaj motorcycle with registration number; 526-OG the value of which is yet to be ascertained. The suspect used a knife to stab him severely, as a result, he sustained serious injuries on his stomach and hands respectively.

On receipt of the report, a team of detectives swiftly swung into action and moved the victim to General Hospital Alkaleri, subsequently, he was certified dead by a medical doctor. Meanwhile, the perpetrator has been arrested. He is responding to police interrogations. During interrogation, the defendant confessed to having committed the offence and further revealed that he started the act of stealing a motorcycle in the year 2020 when he criminally and conspired with one Auwalu of the same address and stole a Bajaj motorcycle red in colour and sold it at the rate of seventy-thousand naira (N70,000) and share the proceed of crime among themselves. An investigation is still ongoing, after which the suspect will be charged to court.


 

CULPABLE HOMICIDE


On 19/10/2023 at about 200hrs information was received from a good Samaritan that some group of Fulani conducting a Maulud procession at Bazai village via Shira LGA where one Auwalu Idi ‘m’ aged 20yrs and Habibu Buba ‘m’ aged 20yrs all of the same address while on their way coming back home from the procession they met one Ibrahim Ahmadu ‘m’ aged 25yrs of same address together with his wife Amina Sani by the roadside, while the suspects attempted to snatch the wife from her matrimonial husband “Ibrahim Ahmadu” now deceased but he resisted, consequently, the defendants insisted and gang-up against him and beat him up with sticks on the forehead, as a result, he sustained internal injury.

On receipt of the report, a team of detectives led by DPO Yana swiftly swung into action, rushed to the scene, and evacuated the victim to General Hospital Yana for medical attention, later on, he was certified dead by a medical doctor. Besides, all the suspects were arrested.

During interrogation, the defendants freely confessed to having committed the crime, The Investigation is still ongoing, after which the suspect will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.


KIDNAPPING


On 1/10/2023 at about 0130hrs information received from a good Samaritan unveiled that some group of people(s) numbering about twenty (20) armed with AK47 rifles invaded Bayara an outskirt village of Bauchi and kidnaped one Alhaji Dan’asabe Abdullahi 'm' aged 50yrs of same address to an unknown destination. 


On receipt of the information, a tactical team was drafted and visited the scene, and nine (9) empty shells of 7.6mm ammunition were recovered.

 Following the effort intensified in conjunction with local hunters to trail the hoodlums to arrest the culprits and rescue the victim, on the same day at about 0600hrs the kidnapped victim Alhaji Abdullahi Abdulkadir 'm' aged 47yrs of Bayara was found at the outskirt with a bullet wound on his head suspected to be shot by the kidnappers the body was evacuated to Bayara General Hospital for postmortem examination. Efforts have been intensified to bring the hoodlums to book.


While commiserating with the deceased family, the Commissioner of Police Bauchi State Command CP Auwal Musa Muhammad psc has on behalf of the entire workforce of the Command and the people of the State extended his condolence message to the family, friends, and love once of the decease and may Almighty Allah (SWA) give them straight and fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss. 

May Allah (SWA) accept, forgive him his shortcomings, and grant him eternal peace.


Moreover, the Command is on top of the matter and all efforts have been intensified to trail the perpetrators. 


The Commissioner of Police CP Auwal Musa Muhammad, psc, assures citizens of the state of the Command’s endless efforts and commitment toward ensuring and maintaining a conducive atmosphere in the State. Additionally, members of the public are advised to adopt the saying; “when you see something say something” to achieve a crime-free State.
