 ASUU–ABSU SUSPENDS THREE-WEEK-OLD INDEFINITE STRIKE The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Abia State University Branch, wishes to inform the University community, all stakeholders and the general public that, following the resolution of Congress held today, Friday, 28th August, 2026, the Branch has suspended its three-week-old comprehensive industrial action with immediate effect. The decision of Congress followed a careful assessment of developments since the commencement of the strike and, particularly, the concrete steps taken towards addressing some of the major issues that necessitated the industrial action. Foremost among these is the full implementation of the 2025 FGN–ASUU salary structure, including the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA), which has now been reflected in the August 2026 salaries of academic staff of Abia State University. Farmers Receives Solar Pumps In Kwara 

Farmers in Kwara state have been supported with Solar Powered Irrigation Pumps for dry season farming by the Rural Electrification Agency in Collaboration with the National Fadama Development Projects to enhance food security in the State .

Presenting the solar-powered irrigation pumps, the Higher Technical Officer, Rural Electrification Agency, North Central Zone, Engineer. Adebayo Babatunde, stated that the initiative is aimed at improving utilisation of Land and Water Resources across the major rivers in the country. 

According to him the implementation of the programme by the agency started with thirteen pivotal states including Kwara.

Engineer Babatunde said the beneficiary subproject sites selected include communities with Farmers' User Groups (FUGs), surface water schemes, subproject sites requiring upgrades in electrification infrastructure among others. 

Receiving the items on behalf of the Kwara State Government, the Project Coordinator, Kwara Fadama CARES, Dr. Busari Isiaka, thanked the Rural Electrification Agency for supporting Farmers in the state to increase their productivity.

He said the initiative will complement various support schemes being executed by the state government.END
