 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police.  GOV SOLUDO VISITS COOU, UNVEILS INITIATIVES FOR EDUCATION REVITALIZATION

The Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma  Soludo, has taken proactive steps toward addressing challenges in tertiary education during a one-day visit to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Igbariam. 


Accompanied by government officials, the Governor unveiled initiatives aimed at enhancing public education, emphasizing improved access to information and a conducive learning environment.


Gov. Soludo, inspired by a warm reception from students, highlighted plans to foster collaboration between the state and the university, emphasizing the importance of aligning education with real-world job requirements. 


Recognizing the school's achievements, he praised the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Greg Nwakoby for his exemplary leadership while discussing future endeavors to elevate the institution's status.


Addressing students concerns, the Governor granted requests for speed bumps and buses, showcasing his commitment to improving infrastructure. 


During her address, the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh underlined that Gov. Soludo brought with him, an education revolution and reformation, creating a rapid renaissance of education in the state. 


Meanwhile, Professor Nwakoby, the Vice Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, underscored the institution's uninterrupted academic progress since 2018. 


He further appealed to the Governor to appoint a Governing Council and Vice Chancellor for the Institution and build hostels, and a library among others. 


The event, attended by key officials, also featured an inspection of school facilities, underscoring the government's dedication to transforming the education sector in Anambra State.
