 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. IGP RECEIVES CDS AT LOUIS EDET HOUSE, EXPRESSES COMMITMENT TO IMPROVED SYNERGY 


- As CDS Harps on Joint Training, Social Engagements to Boost Rapport Amongst Security Operatives 

- IGP Assures of Improved Partnership with MDAs for Effective Policing as IGP Plays Host to Women Affairs Minister, DG NAPTIP

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., mni, on Thursday 30th November, 2023, received the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa OFR and other senior military officers at the Louis Edet House, Force Headquarters, Abuja on an official visit to the Nigeria Police Force to strengthen the working relationship between the Police and personnel of the military in the task of securing the nation both internally and against external aggression.

The Defence Chief congratulated the IGP on his appointment and recent confirmation while extolling the officers and men of the Police Mobile Force for their gallant turnout during joint operations in troubled areas. He decried the unfortunate attack on the Adamawa State Police Command by some soldiers and assured that a thorough investigation has been launched into the incident. He also urged all security agencies to embark on a reorientation drive of their personnel for a more harmonious working relationship. He further cautioned officers and men of the military and police to shun unnecessary rivalry while calling for joint training sessions for the lower cadres of the Armed Forces and the Police to build rapport and enhanced cooperation.

The Inspector General of Police similarly congratulated the CDS on his well-deserved confirmation of appointment noting that the NPF is committed to improved synergy between all security agencies for better security management. The IGP stated that he was pleased at the assurance that the Adamawa incident is being investigated and expressed optimism that the process will be thorough and transparent so as to prevent a repeat of the unfortunate incidence.

In the same vein, the IGP played host to the Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, Barr. Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye and her team, as well as the Director General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Prof. Fatima Waziri-Azi, Ph.D., where issues bordering on gender sensitivity and inclusiveness were discussed. The IGP assured of improved collaboration with all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) for effective policing architecture in Nigeria. 

The Inspector General of Police has guaranteed that the Nigeria Police is committed to healthier partnership particularly in the areas of data collection, support on transfer of gender sensitive cases, as well as those bordering on human trafficking. He expressed confidence that with a more harmonious relationship comes higher responsibility to one another and improved security for the nation as a whole.
