S. A: FOUR PEOPLE HAVE DIED AFTER A CAR WAS SWEPT AWAY AT AN OVERFLOWING BRIDGE IN THE MAKOTOPONG RIVER NEAR SEBAYENG.(PHOTO).

 Four people have died after a car was swept away at an overflowing bridge in the Makotopong River near Sebayeng. Police recovered the bodies after a blue Renault Kwid carrying five occupants was pulled into the river during heavy water flow on Sunday morning, 8 March 2026. One passenger escaped from the vehicle and alerted police and emergency services. Police say the car was travelling along the Madiga–Makotopong gravel road when it overturned at the flooded bridge and was dragged into the river. The Provincial Search and Rescue team recovered the first body on Sunday. The victim was identified as Lebapa Petrus Mochitele, 27, from Madiga Village. EMS personnel declared him dead at the scene. Search operations resumed on Monday with the SAPS Water Wing Unit, EMS Search and Rescue, the Fire and Rescue Department, and an EMS helicopter. Kaduna Governor Assures Of Corps Members' Safety

Kaduna State Government has pledged to continue supporting and encouraging Corps Members by fulfilling it's obligations to the scheme.

Governor Uba Sani stated this at the opening and swearing in ceremony of the twenty twenty three Batch B stream 11 orientation course held at the NYSC Temporary Camp in Kaduna.

The Governor who was represented by the Special Adviser on Revenue Matter, Alhaji Umar Waziri said his administration would ensure maximum safety and security of Corps Members during their service year.

He called on them to live up to their responsibilities in their service to the nation, while urging them to take advantage of various skills acquisition programs organised by the government to better themselves.

The State Coordinator, Mr Hassan Taura in a remark, thanked the Governor for his support and cooperation to the scheme and he added that at the end of registration, one thousand four hundred and one prospective Corps Members were registered.
