  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements. Security operatives on Saturday allegedly arrested the council chairman of Igalamela Local Government Area of Kogi State, James Onoja, for possession of ammunition and lots of cash.


The money and the ammunition it was gathered were packed in several ‘Ghana-must-go’ bags.


The money and ammunition were allegedly meant for use during the election.


A video shows the suspects sitting on the floor near an army checkpoint.


In a viral video, both the council chairman and his gang were seen expressing regrets and pleading for forgiveness.


The Police Public Relations Officer in Kogi State, William Ovye did not respond to inquiries at the time of filing this report.


The elections so far have been marred with several allegations of vote-buying amidst low voter turnout.


The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dino Melaiye has called for cancellation of elections conducted in five LGAs in the state.
