 UNICEF warns about escalating crisis in eastern Congo, urges global action UNICEF has urged the international community not to remain indifferent to the worsening situation in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where fighting between government forces and the March 23 Movement (M23) rebel group continues to endanger millions. Spokesperson James Elder emphasized to Anadolu that the crisis will deepen unless addressed through political engagement and financial support. Elder, who recently spent one week in Goma, in the east of that country, described the region as facing a near “disaster” due to the Mpox virus outbreak combined with violence. “UNICEF and partners were rushing to support across the region to ensure it just did not spread further. Married man arrested for defiling 2-year-old girl, blames alcohol.


The police in Adamawa state has arrested a 30 -year-old man, Buguwa Kwaji, for defiling a 2-year-old girl, wh blaming alcohol for the crime. 


Kwaji was apprehended by the Adamawa State Police Command on the 12 November, 2023 following a tip off.


Buguwa, who resides at Aljannaru village in Song LGA where he perpetrated the crime, confessed to defiling the minor, saying he was under the influence of alcohol.


“After drinking a gin known as voltage on that fateful day, I lay down, and the little girl came and started playing on my body. So I raped her because I could not resist the urge for sex” Buguwa said


He was caught red handed by the elder sister to the victim who raised an alarm as a result of which he nabbed and handed over to the police. The suspect is married and that his wife is pregnant at the moment.


The spokesperson of the command, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, confirmed the arrest and said that the Commissioner of Police, Afolabi Babatola has ordered the CID to investigate the matter and ensure the prosecution of suspect.

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. “The Appellant was set up.
