 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. NARTO ALERTS NIGER GOVERNMENT ON THE EMERGENCE OF FAKE REVENUE COLLECTORS.


Niger state chapter of the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners NARTO has alerted the state government on sudden appearance of fake revenue collectors posing as staff of Revenue Board who are harassing it's members in parts of the state.

State Chairman Alh Hassan Usman Shiroro stated this in an interview with Newsmen in Minna on the situation he described as highly condemnable.

Alh Hassan Shiroro therefore appealed to the Niger state government especially state Revenue Board to as a matter of urgency address this problem by taken measures to arrest perpetrators of this ungodly act and bring them to book to serve as deterrent to others.

The NARTO Chairman lamented that he was personally stopped by those fake revenue collectors at Kagara headquarters of Rafi Local Government Area of Niger state and demanded for fourty thousand naira from him for sticker in which he alerted the security agencies to do the needful.

According to him one of their driver also came across such illegal revenue collectors at Bida local government area that asked him to pay thirty five thousand naira but after paying twenty thousand naira the victim now called the Chairman to intimate him on what is happening who now advice him to report them to a nearby security agents for possible action.

On ember months Alh Hassan Shiroro would also wants his members especially drivers to avoid overspending and overloading to avoid accident and safeguard lives and properties of their passengers.

While commenting on poor state of Federal roads in Niger state the NARTO Chairman expressed happiness that Governor Mohammed Umar Bago is not resting on his oars in engaging critical stakeholders such Alh Aliko Dangote Abdulsamad Isiyaka Rabiu the Federal Government and traditional rulers to ensure that the Minna Kontagora,Minna Bida and the Minna Suleija roads were completed.
