 Convicted war criminal Lubanga announces new rebel group in east Congo A convicted war criminal based in Uganda has announced a new rebel movement intent on toppling the government in eastern Congo's Ituri province, creating another potential security threat in the war-scarred region, Reuters reported. The formation of the Convention for the Popular Revolution (CPR) by Thomas Lubanga, an Ituri native, comes as Congo's army faces an unprecedented advance by Rwandan-backed M23 rebels elsewhere in eastern Congo. The International Criminal Court secured its first conviction against Lubanga in 2012 on charges of recruiting child soldiers and sentenced him to 14 years in prison. He was released in 2020 and President Felix Tshisekedi appointed him to a task force to bring peace to Ituri. NSCDC ORDERS FOR DISCRETE INVESTIGATION OF MISSING TOWER IN NIGER.


The Commandant General Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi has directed for discrete investigation into the missing tower in Niger state belonging to a media organisation with a view to bring the culprits to justice.

 This was contained in a statement issued to Newsmen in Minna by the Public Relations Officer Niger state command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp DSC Nasir Abdullahi.

According to him the tower in question was at a particular location at Maikujeri in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger state when a scavenger Bello Mustapha approach two of their personnel one attached to Niger state command and the other with Kaduna state with forged document to give him a cover to evacuate the items.

The command is shocked to hear over the media that the tower was confiscated by men of the command and the Niger state Commandant Dr Elijah Etim Willie sold it out in Lagos state which they described as misleading and untrue.

As a responsible organisation established by an act saddled with responsibility of protecting National critical assets and infrastructure Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp will not under any reason engage in such scandalous affairs under whatever guise.

It however said both the National headquarters of NSCDC and that of Niger state command were on top of the situation and are presently on the trial of the culprits including officers involved to face long arm of justice.

The statement further explained that Commandant of the Corps in charge of Niger state Dr Elijah Etim Willie has vowed not to allow the matter to be swept under the carpet without bringing those involve to book.

While calling on Journalists to always cross check their facts to assertain the genuineness of their stories also advised people of the state to remain calm and orderly as soon the truth will be unraveled.
