 Tanzanian opposition Tundu Lissu charged with treason Tanzanian opposition leader Tundu Lissu was charged with treason following his arrest at a public rally in which he called for electoral reforms ahead of planned general elections in October, AP reported. Lissu, chairperson of the main opposition party CHADEMA, was arrested on Wednesday night over what regional police called incitement. The opposition in Tanzania has been calling for electoral reforms to ensure the upcoming poll is free and fair. Lissu on Thursday afternoon arrived at the Kisutu magistrate's court in the commercial capital Dar es Salaam appearing in high spirits and in the company of his lawyers and opposition party politicians. SAHEED OSUPA DISCLOSED HOW HE ALMOST ABANDONED HIS POLITICAL SCIENCE PROGRAMME AT THE UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN. (PHOTO).

Nigerian US-based Fuji musician, Saheed Osupa, has disclosed how he almost abandoned his political science programme at the University of Ibadan (UI), Oyo State.

Osupa, who was part of the last graduates of the institution, disclosed this in a Facebook post while commenting on his decision to pursue a degree in political science.

He wrote:

“I went to school to pursue my degrees because I wanted to upgrade my intellectual capacity and don’t want to be segregated.

“Initially, I was not having any problems from my 100-level. But when I got to 300-level, I almost quit because it was now more about writing. But I adjusted and adapted.

“However, it was not easy at all and I had to employ two lecturers for a course before my graduation and put in more effort.”

“My plan is to achieve my masters and a PhD in five years in America where I reside now to validate my PhD title.”

He, therefore, advised that, “People should not be mentally lazy or believe that once they can feed, clothe and provide shelter for themselves and families; that is the peak of achievement or success.”

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. “The Appellant was set up.
