 Senegal’s Faye Says Has ‘Done Everything’ To Bring Sahel Trio Back To ECOWAS Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye said he had “done everything possible” to bring junta-led Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger back into west Africa’s ECOWAS regional group, to no avail. The three Sahel countries quit the Economic Community of West African States at the beginning of the year, accusing the bloc of being subservient to France and failing in the fight against jihadism. The breakaway countries have formed their own Alliance of Sahel States (AES), turning away from former colonial power France and pivoting towards Russia. Woman arrested for abducting 3-year-old girl in Minna, claims she got contract of N530,000 to procure a female child.


Operatives of the Niger State Police Command have arrested a woman, Mrs. Blessing Jeremiah, for abducting a 3-year-old girl in Minna.


Spokesperson of the command, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, who disclosed this in a statement on Friday, November 10, 2023, said the 51-year-old woman stole the child identified as Rahanat Abubakar, from a compound in Tudun-Natsira area of Minna. 


According to the PPRO, the woman was apprehended at a luxurious bus park while attempting to board a vehicle with the child. 


During interrogation, she claimed that one Mama Ejima contracted her to get a female child at the rate of N530,000. 


“On 25/10/2023 at about 1930hrs, one Mrs. Blessing Jeremiah 51yrs of Keteren-Gwari, Minna was seen at luxurious bus park around Maitumbi bye-pass Minna, in an attempt to board a bus to travel with a 3yr old girl suspected to have been abducted,” the statement read.


“Police operatives attached to Tudun-Wada Div were immediately drafted to the park and arrested the suspect with the girl child. 


“During interrogation, she confessed that she took the child named Rahanat Abubakar from a compound in Tudun-Natsira area of Minna on the same date at about 1800hrs.


“She claimed that she intended to take the child to one Mrs. Ejima at Nnewi, Anambra State who contracted her to get a female child for her at the rate of five hundred and thirty thousand naira, while a sum of two hundred and thirty thousand naira was recovered from the suspect.


“However, the girl child has been reunited with her family, case is under investigation at SCID Minna as effort is ongoing to apprehend the said Mrs. Ejima.”

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha.
