 NEMA COORDINATES SAR OPS AT THE SCENE OF BUILDING COLLAPSE INVOLVING A THREE STOREY BUILDING UNDER CONSTRUCTION AT GUDU AREA OF FCT At about 0945hrs on Saturday 16th May, 2026, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) was alerted of a building collapse at Gudu District of FCT.  Critical stakeholders including Federal Fire, FCT Fire, NSCDC, NPF, FRSC and Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) were activated while a response team of NEMA from the Abuja Operations Office led by the Head of Operations Mr Zakari Abubakar  and operatives from AYA Emergency Response Bay (ERAB) were deployed to the scene for quick response and coordination.  A reinforcement team  from NEMA Headquarters led by the Director Search and Response (DSAR) Air Cdre Bature Usman was also on ground to provide necessary backup and supervision. Civil Defence nabs nine for making pillows with used diapers, sanitary pads

Nine persons have been arrested in Sokoto for making and selling pillows containing used diapers and sanitary pads.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) announced the arrest at the state command’s headquarters on Wednesday.

The state’s commandant, Bello Alkali Argungun, said, “They used small children who get them the trash. They filled the pillowcases with it, which they sold to their customers. The pillowcases carry different logos of reputable foam companies.”

Mr. Argungun warned unsuspecting buyers of the pillows of the health hazards, saying, “They may contract some diseases without knowing the cause. I am appealing to our people to always go for businesses that are legitimate.”

He stated that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
