 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. POWA ORGANIZES ANNUAL CONFERENCE WEEK 


As President Rolls Out Empowerment Scheme; Event to Span 6th to 8th December 2023

The Police Officers' Wives Association (POWA) is eagerly anticipating its annual conference week, slated to take place from the 6th to the 8th of December, 2023. This significant gathering is poised to unveil a transformative empowerment scheme spearheaded by the POWA President, Mrs. Queen Elizabeth Egbetokun.

This conference, spanning three days, is strategically designed to offer members a platform for engagement, collaboration, and empowerment. Mrs. Egbetokun's unveiling of the empowerment scheme is expected to be a pivotal moment, marking a commitment to positive change within the community of police officers' families. Beyond its ceremonial significance, the conference will address crucial issues affecting police officers' families, underscoring POWA's dedication to community building and the overall welfare of its members.

The Annual Conference Week will feature an opening ceremony at the POWA National Secretariat, Mambilla Barracks Asokoro; Empowerment and Sports at the POWA International School Area 11, Garki, Abuja; and a Dinner and Awards event at the Space and Function Event Centre, City Park, Wuse 2, Abuja. The empowerment scheme is a multifaceted initiative aimed at uplifting and supporting POWA members. Activities include skill acquisition programs, capacity-building workshops, and economic empowerment initiatives, all geared towards fostering personal and professional development.

The POWA President assures of the commitment of her administration to community service, reiterating that the conference week serves as a focal point for strengthening community ties and fostering unity among members.
