 NUT Protest : Wike Warns Against Politicising Insecurity The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has warned against politicising insecurity amid protests by the Nigeria Union of Teachers, FCT wing, over the killing and abduction of school staff and children in Oyo State. Teachers stormed the FCTA Secretariat in Abuja to condemn the killing of Michael Oyedokun and to demand the release of abducted pupils and teachers from Community High School, Ahoro-Esinle in Oriire Local Government Area. The FCT minister addressed the protesters on Tuesday, saying the federal government is on its toes working to secure the rescue of the schoolchildren and their teachers. Wike urged protesters to avoid turning the tragedy into a political issue and to give security efforts time to produce results. Shane MacGowan, the lead singer from The Pogues, passed away yesterday the 30th of November 2023..

“Shane was a quintessential Irish poet figure, with all that entailed. His voice spoke truth directly to the soul. You had to keep him away from the mini-bar, but hopefully he enjoyed his all-too-brief time on our fair globe.” - Brian Ritchie

A statement on behalf of Shane Mac Gowan’s wife Victoria Mary Clarke, his sister Siobhan and father, Maurice.


It is with the deepest sorrow and heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our most beautiful, darling and dearly beloved SHANE MACGOWAN.


Shane died peacefully at 3.30 am this morning (30 November, 2023) with his wife and sister by his side.


Prayers and the last rites were read during his passing.


He is survived by his wife Victoria, his sister Siobhan and his father, Maurice.


Further details will be announced shortly but the family ask for privacy at this very sad time".
