 President Trump awarded inaugural FIFA Peace Prize at World Cup draw in Washington  Gianni Infantino, the FIFA President presented the honour onstage at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts on Friday, saying Trump had been selected “in recognition of his exceptional and extraordinary actions to promote peace and unity around the world”. “This is your prize, this is your peace prize,” Infantino said, after Trump took the stage to accept the trophy, a medal and certificate. “There is also a beautiful medal for you that you can wear everywhere you want to go.”   FIFA says the prize is for “individuals who help unite people in peace through unwavering commitment and special actions”.  Accepting the award, Trump called it “one of the great honours of my life”, before claiming to have “saved millions and millions of lives – the Congo is an example, over 10 million people killed and it was heading for another 10 million very quickly. Shane MacGowan, the lead singer from The Pogues, passed away yesterday the 30th of November 2023..

“Shane was a quintessential Irish poet figure, with all that entailed. His voice spoke truth directly to the soul. You had to keep him away from the mini-bar, but hopefully he enjoyed his all-too-brief time on our fair globe.” - Brian Ritchie

A statement on behalf of Shane Mac Gowan’s wife Victoria Mary Clarke, his sister Siobhan and father, Maurice.


It is with the deepest sorrow and heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our most beautiful, darling and dearly beloved SHANE MACGOWAN.


Shane died peacefully at 3.30 am this morning (30 November, 2023) with his wife and sister by his side.


Prayers and the last rites were read during his passing.


He is survived by his wife Victoria, his sister Siobhan and his father, Maurice.


Further details will be announced shortly but the family ask for privacy at this very sad time".
