  Tragedy Strikes As Promising Councillor Hon. Chukwuma Okpalauzuegbu Is Laid To Rest On Intended wedding Day  By Charity Ejiofor  A day that was meant to mark a joyful union has instead become one of deep sorrow for family, friends, and the Aguata community, following the sudden passing of Hon. Chukwuma Christopher Okpalauzuegbu, the councillor representating Amesi Ward. Hon. Okpalauzuegbu fondly known as Chuma, had been preparing to celebrate his wedding ceremony, an event filled with hope, promise and carefully laid plans. Loved ones, and sponsors, ready to stand beside him as he embark on a new chapter of life. In an unexpected and heart breaking turn of events, those dreams were cut short. Shane MacGowan, the lead singer from The Pogues, passed away yesterday the 30th of November 2023..

“Shane was a quintessential Irish poet figure, with all that entailed. His voice spoke truth directly to the soul. You had to keep him away from the mini-bar, but hopefully he enjoyed his all-too-brief time on our fair globe.” - Brian Ritchie

A statement on behalf of Shane Mac Gowan’s wife Victoria Mary Clarke, his sister Siobhan and father, Maurice.


It is with the deepest sorrow and heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our most beautiful, darling and dearly beloved SHANE MACGOWAN.


Shane died peacefully at 3.30 am this morning (30 November, 2023) with his wife and sister by his side.


Prayers and the last rites were read during his passing.


He is survived by his wife Victoria, his sister Siobhan and his father, Maurice.


Further details will be announced shortly but the family ask for privacy at this very sad time".
