 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT PROMOTES 43 TO RANK OF PROFESSOR, 22 TO RANK OF READER


43 senior academics of the University of Port Harcourt are now promoted to the rank of professor.

They were considered suited to benefit from the new round of promotion in the institution.

A notice made public by the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Dr. Samuel Kpenu, said 22 other senior academics were promoted to the rank of associate professor (readers).

It stated that the promotion was sequel to the approval by the Minister of Education on Friday, December 8, 2023.

There has been an earlier meeting of the Central A&PC Academic of the University of Port Harcourt on Thursday, November 23, 2023, where the newly promoted academics were recommended.

A breakdown of the promotion showed that the Faculty of Science got ten new professors, Faculty of Education got ten new professors, Faculty of CHS got eight new professors, Faculty of Humanities got seven new professors, while the Faculty of Agriculture got three new professors. 

The Faculty of Social Science got one, Faculty of Engineering got one, Faculty of Management got one, and the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies got one.
