 Four people have died after a car was swept away at an overflowing bridge in the Makotopong River near Sebayeng. Police recovered the bodies after a blue Renault Kwid carrying five occupants was pulled into the river during heavy water flow on Sunday morning, 8 March 2026. One passenger escaped from the vehicle and alerted police and emergency services. Police say the car was travelling along the Madiga–Makotopong gravel road when it overturned at the flooded bridge and was dragged into the river. The Provincial Search and Rescue team recovered the first body on Sunday. The victim was identified as Lebapa Petrus Mochitele, 27, from Madiga Village. EMS personnel declared him dead at the scene. Search operations resumed on Monday with the SAPS Water Wing Unit, EMS Search and Rescue, the Fire and Rescue Department, and an EMS helicopter. Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has congratulated veteran Nollywood actor, Prince Jide Kosoko, on his 70th birthday.


Governor Sanwo-Olu in a congratulatory message issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Gboyega Akosile on Saturday, described Prince Jide Kosoko, who clocked 70 on January 12, as a living legend in the movie industry. 


The Governor also described the renowned actor as a good ambassador and proud Lagosian who has used his wealth of experience and talent to bring joy to millions of homes through several movies he participated in. 


He said: "On behalf of my wife, Ibijoke, the government, and the people of Lagos State, I join family, friends, associates and fans to congratulate Prince Jide Kosoko on his 70th birthday celebration.


"Prince Jide Kosoko is a veteran Nollywood actor who has used acting as a tool to spread joy across many homes within and outside the country. He has contributed immensely to the growth and development of the entertainment industry. 


"We thank God for the grace upon Prince Jide Kosoko's life and for using acting as a tool for a good cause in our society. He is a role model to thousands of young Nigerians in the movie industry.


"I wish Prince Jide Kosoko all the very best on his 70th birthday. We thank God for his life and good health. We wish him long life and prosperity in good health.
