 “No electricity, no vote,” South Africans threaten to shun ruling party ANC Residents in Katlehong, a township outside Johannesburg, have resolved to boycott South Africa's upcoming local elections on November 4 due to long-standing failures by authorities to provide basic services like electricity. For over 20 years, around 180 households in the community have relied on illegal electrical connections pulled from neighboring areas to power their homes. Angry over the lack of formal grid infrastructure, residents are directing their frustration at the ruling African National Congress (ANC). "We have made a collective decision: no electricity, no vote," said community leader Lesiba Rankapole, 59. "We know it is illegal, but we had no choice because we cannot live without electricity.  Inferno Claims Family Of Seven In Kano


A late night fire, has led to the death of seven family members, while one sustained various degree of injuries at Tudun wada quarters, Nasarawa local government area, Kano.


 Executive Secretary, Kano state emergency management agency (SEMA),Alhaji Isiyaku Abdullahi Kubarachi confirmed the incident to Radio Nigeria in Kano.


According to him, the midnight  fire was triggered by electric fault, which led to the death of Malam Shu'aibu and his family.


He stressed that, the fire started from the living room, where the family moved to the inner room, and all efforts by neighbors to rescue them, proved abortive as they were suffocated by smoke.


Alhaji Isiyaku pointed out that, the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), had visited the scene, and had directed it's staff to compile a comprehensive  report, for onward submission to the state government for necessary action. 


The Executive Secretary, urged relatives of the deceased to consider the tragedy as the will of God and prayed for the repose of their souls. 


He charged residents to handle fire and electric appliances with care to avoid inferno.
