An unnamed juvenile was shot in Salem, Illinois early this morning. She had to be airlifted to a St. Louis hospital.
Diego Barradas, a 21-year-old resident of Centralia, Illinois is being charged with reckless discharge of a firearm and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon in relation to the shooting.
At approximately 3 a.m. a 911 call came from 1336 north Trenary street. Officials were called to the scene for an unspecified reason. When Salem police officers arrived on scene they found a juvenile suffering from a gunshot wound to her abdomen. She was treated on the scene, and taken to Salem hospital. Due to the injuries sustained in the shooting she had to be airlifted to a St. Louis Hospital.
Mr. Barradas allegedly fled the scene and was picked up during a traffic stop shortly after the shooting.
4 days ago, Mr. Barradas was involved in an accident in Salem, Illinois where he and a 17-year-old juvenile girl crashed into a residence on Oak Park Drive in Salem, Illinois. The resident, Gregory Sprehe, was sleeping when the accident occurred. A piece of furniture struck Mr. Sprehe but he did not go to the hospital. The 17-year-old juvenile left the scene before police arrived. No one was treated for injuries.
I will update this story when Chief Kyle Ambuehl of the Salem Police Department is able to update everyone.
