  The Rivers State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Rivers State Police Command, demanding a public apology for the assault on five journalists during a peaceful protest in Port Harcourt. Failure to comply, the union warned, would result in a statewide media blackout. In a statement jointly signed by Council Chairman Comrade Paul Bazia and Secretary Dr. Ijeoma Tubosia, the NUJ condemned the police actions as “unprovoked, barbaric, and inhuman,” calling for the immediate identification and prosecution of the officers involved. “The NUJ, as a watchdog of society, will not sit idly by while media practitioners are subjected to barbarism and brutality. Kano Taskforce Vows to Curtail Drug Abuse

The Newly Constituted Taskforce Committee on Drug and phone snatching abuse in Kano has reiterates its commitment in curtailing the menace of drug abuse in the state.

 Chairman of the Taskforce Brigadier General Gambo Mai Aduwa (rtd) disclosed this during a media parley held in Kano.

He said the Taskforce was constituted by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf with the mandate of addressing the challenge of illegal usage of drugs in the state.

Brigadier General Gambo Mai Aduwa rtd explained that the Taskforce has mapped out modalities on how to ensure that drug abuse and it allieds were being reduced to the minimum level in the state.

"It is also among our mandates to rehabilitate drug abuse addicts, we will ensure that youths who have turned to nuisance due to drug abuse were being taken to rehabilitation centers with the aim of rehabilitating them to become better people in the society "he said.

The Chairman of the Taskforce maintained that they will enforce the activities of the committee comprises the police, Nigeria Security and civil defense,vigilantes and special forces recruited to tackle the menace of drug abuse and phone snatching.

He noted that a mobile court has already been constituted , geared towards ensuring that the objectives of Establishing the Taskforce committee was being achieved.

Brigadier General Gambo Mai Aduwa rtd Solicited the support of the general populace with a view to addressing the high increase of drug abuse in the state and the Nation at large.
