 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. Late Ex-Ondo Governor Akeredolu’s remains arrive Nigeria

 

The remains of the late former Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, have been brought back to Nigeria from Germany, where he passed away. The plane carrying Akeredolu’s body arrived at about 3:39 p.m. on Friday, January 5, 2024.


The arrival was marked by the presence of the late governor’s wife, Chief Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, his children, and siblings, led by Prof. Wole Akeredolu, the immediate younger brother. They received the body at the airport.


The solemn occasion also saw the presence of representatives from various states, including Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Tayo Ayinde; Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbi Talabi; and a representative of Osun State Governor, Senator Demola Adeleke.


Additionally, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Princess Oladunni Odu, and some members of the state executive council were present at the airport to receive Akeredolu’s body.


The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, and a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Gboyega Adefarati, were also in attendance.


Emotional scenes unfolded as family members, followers, friends, and associates witnessed the lowering of the late governor’s body from the plane.


Akeredolu died in Germany on December 26, 2023, and his remains had been deposited at the morgue until the final burial.


While details of the burial arrangements are yet to be announced, a family member assured that the information would be shared soon.


The return of Akeredolu’s remains marks a poignant moment for the people of Ondo State and the nation at large, as preparations for his final resting place are anticipated.
