 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police.  Meet Nigerian socialite Aisha Achimugu who held seven-day 50th birthday party in Grenada


The birthday party of Abuja-based businesswoman, Aisha Adole Achimugu at Caribbean Island of Grenada last week set many tongues wagging. She turned 50 on January 22. 

Checks by The Nation shows Aisha is the Managing Director/CEO of Felak Concept Group.

Her company is into consultancy services related to health, equipment procurement, training and capacity building. 

She’s also a Director in Altex Engineering Oil & Gas Limited and made her mark in maritime and transportation engineering.

Aisha is at the forefront of the initiative for the actualisation and development of a Deep Sea Port in South-South, Nigeria. 

She is the first female Consultant/Transaction Advisor on the development of a Deep-Sea Port through one of her high profile companies “Felak Concept Limited”.

Aisha was born on January 22, 1974 to Capt. J.E. A & Mrs. Adole (Rtd.) and from a very humble beginning, she attended Federal Government Girls Science School, Kuje, Abuja.

She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from the University of Jos.

She was also awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the Commonwealth University, Belize. 

Aisha got married to Sulaiman Akao Achimugu and they have three children.

However, her husband passed away in 2020. Sulaiman was said to have died from COVID-19 complications.

To celebrate her golden jubilee, the socialite went all out for a seven-day event. It attracted many big wigs. It held from January 16th-23rd.

The event featured numerous festivities which saw guests alternate between Calivigny Island and Silversand.

According to reports, Achimugu spent nearly $1 million (more than a N1 billion) to rent the island for an entire week.

The cost of a night at the Silversands Resort begins from the $1,060 (N1,378,000) per person.

Calvigny Island, on the other hand, costs about $30,000 (over N39 million) per night — for the entire island. 

The prices for the private island can also vary from $30,000 – $165,000 per night — depending on the time of year.

She also created a website — ‘aishaachimugu50th.com‘ — specifically for the birthday celebration. 

Checks by The Nation shows the website contains details about visa arrangements, standby chauffeurs, travel itineraries, and the closest airport to the event location, among others.

lso, Aisha will also be hosting another birthday party at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja on January 26 by 6 pm. 

There will also be a dinner party at the International Conference Centre the following day (January 27) from 8:30 pm.

  SSANU, NASU threaten strike over withheld salaries The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions have threatened to disrupt industrial peace in universities should the government fail to release the withheld salaries of members. The salaries were seized by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari during their strike in 2022. The unions, in a joint letter signed on Friday by the President of SSANU, Muhammed Ibrahim and General Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, questioned the rationale with which the government released four months withheld salaries to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities but failed to release the withheld salaries of non-academic staff.
