 Rita Daniels Loses AGN Presidency To Abubakar Yakubu Abubakar Yakubu has emerged as the new president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) after narrowly defeating Rita Daniels in a closely contested election. The poll was held on Saturday during the guild’s annual general meeting in Benin City, Edo State. Yakubu secured 116 votes to beat Daniels, who polled 113 votes, while three votes were declared invalid. The veteran actor and administrator takes over from Emeka Rollas. His victory is historic, as he becomes the first AGN president from northern Nigeria since the guild’s official registration in 1998. Yakubu previously served as national secretary from 2019 to 2025 and has also held other positions including national vice president, national treasurer, and public relations officer. A graduate of Dramatic Arts from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, the Kaduna-born actor brings over 25 years of experience in television, film, and stage productions to his new role. POLICE FOIL ASSASSINATION PLOT, ARRESTS LG CHAIRMAN FOR PLANS TO ELIMINATE BENUE SPEAKER


Reaffirms Commitment to Prevention of Crimes 

The Nigeria Police Force, through the diligent efforts of its operatives, has successfully apprehended two suspects involved in an alleged assassination plot. The arrested suspects include a Chairman of one of the Local Government Areas of Benue State.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the Local Government Chairman allegedly contracted a militia with the sinister intention of eliminating the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Hon. Aondona Hycenth Dajoh. The operatives of the Force Intelligence Department – Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) swiftly swung into action upon receiving credible intelligence regarding the planned assassination. 

Both suspects are currently in police custody and are actively cooperating with investigators in the ongoing inquiry. The Nigeria Police Force remains resolute in its commitment to upholding the safety and security of citizens and public officials. 

The arrested suspects will face the full weight of the law, and the Nigeria Police Force reassures the public of its unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order, and prevention of crimes at all levels.
